Naked Truth
August 22, 2006There are some truths in this world that are harder to bear. The first time the idea of the possibility that it could be real passes through your mind, you couldn't believe that you are entertaining such thought. When the words are uttered by someone who has impeccable integrity, you think it is a matter of a wrong perception. But when evidence start piling up, you pray it is just a huge mistake. And when the truth is staring you straight in the eye, you cover yourself in denial. You refuse to acknowledge the fact of its existence. It is like the big gray elephant inside the room that nobody takes notice. When the inevitable moment comes, when your hand is forced to face it,
Will you accept it? Be oblivious to it? Flat out deny it?
The choice that you will make will not be based on facts presented nor by the inner turmoil you are feeling.
You will select the choice that let's you make it through the day.
Courting Danger
Do you always test your limits? Do you know how many bottles of beer you can consume before you get drunk? Do you know how long you can hold your breath underwater? Do you know how many shrimps you can eat before your allergy attacks? Do you how much weight you can carry before you arms give way? If you can say the exact number and I do mean the precise number (to the last second, to the last pound, to the last decimal place), you have really tested your limits. You have done several experiments on how much you can get away with.
What about your morals? Do you also test them? Do you push yourself to see how far you can get without crossing the line of your ethics? If yes, why do you do it? Are you doing it subconsciously? They say "masarap ang bawal" and anything good in this life is either illegal, immoral or fattening. Is that it? Do you know really know what is at stake by doing this? Does gambling with your morals gives you a high or is it because the situation calls for it? Whatever your reasons are, I hope it's worth it. Because when playing with fire, you eventually get burnt. Maybe not in this lifetime —– worse, in the afterlife.
A piece of my mind
August 17, 2006When I read someone else's blogs, I can sometimes formulate or deduce the personality/character of the person who wrote it even if I don't know him/her. Nope, I'm not a psychiatrist nor am I psych major. How do I it? I don't know, maybe I'm just wired that way. Some say, it must be woman's intuition. Maybe, maybe not. I can also do it to someone who is giving a speech. Weird, right? Now that I'm blogging, it might be payback time. People who are reading my blogs maybe psycho-analyzing my personality. It keeps me wondering if they have already built a prima facie case that I am a certified paranoid schizoid. Oh well, that's their prerogative and who cares —- I do. So stop. You may be entitled to your opinion but it doesn't mean it's true. So I tell myself.

Hotel with medical services
August 15, 2006By definition, a hospital is an institution that provides medical, surgical, or psychiatric care and treatment for the sick or the injured. But some hospitals nowadays offer more than medical services. They have gone an extra mile for their patients/clients but in this case, an extra 100 miles."
The facade and lobbys of these hospitals can rival that of first class hotels. You have to take a second look to be sure you are not entering a 5 star hotel. Instead of a nurse's aid helping you in admitting, you will be welcomed by the bellhop complete with the luggage trolley. I'm not kidding, honest. Did you know that the rate per day of the special rooms cost more than the price of a 29 inch flat TV? Beat that. They even have WI-FI in their exclusive suites —- hospitals gone techie.
Their parking spaces can compete with that of a shopping mall in Makati. And it'll also cost you an arm and leg to park overnight, to boot. They even have a food court wherein the restos provide delivery services to your hospital room at a premium rate, of course. Did I mention they also have an on-site beauty salon and gym? Billing (inquiry) kiosks are strategically located in the building for your convenience. If that doesn't take the cake, they also have a loyalty program (if you want them to be an exclusive partner in your health care) that offers special discounts for certain medical procedures. They even have gift certificates. Gift certificates! What's next? Reward or frequency points?
And now for the clincher: the list of medical services they provide; the roster of their specialist doctors; the list of their highly sophisticated life saving machines —- sorry, it didn't merit a space in the brochure.
