Cruel to be kind

Being kind is easy. You just have to be nice to the person. It’s worthwhile doing because being kind feeds your soul at the same time increases your deposits in the emotional bank account for that person. Emotional bank account is like a financial account but instead of money, we are talking in terms of goodwill and trust. In layman’s term plus 10 pogi or ganda points. =o)

But having to be cruel to be kind is a whole different matter. It is a selfless and thankless job. You have to do or say something that will upset the other person but in the long run will help them. You have to cause someone pain for his/her own good. This is very hard to pull off. First, you have to go against the grain. No one is by nature cruel, we don’t want to see people suffer or knowingly inflict pain to another person. You have to have the firm resolve and sometimes the stomach to do this. You cannot do this half-heartedly else it is all for naught. Another thing about doing this is that you will appear to be the villain in the situation but in reality you are the self-sacrificing victim or savior. Expect to hear harsh words because of your actions/words. Instinctively, you will want to defend yourself — with what your doing. But you have to take the code of silence on this. You have to restrain yourself in the most tempting moment. No one has to know. In terms of emotional bank account, it seems you are withdrawing a huge amount with all probability that you will end up with a negative balance. But in reality….. as I said it’s a thankless and selfless act.

So, why do it?* Because some people are just worth it.

*A friend says because some people can’t help themselves but be stupid martyrs.
