Asereth's Musings

Bookworm

August 10, 2006

A family friend recently had a garage sale and I bought 24 books. I know, that's a lot. But it was cheap as in dirt cheap. Most of the books I bought were sci-fi or suspense novels, all fiction. For those not in the know, I love to read. My whole family loves to read. I prefer the horror, sci-fi and suspense books. I indulge myself to romantic novels every now and then. I loathe self-help and instructional books. They bore me. A cousin of mine once told me that I have a vivid and wild imagination because of the books I've read (not to mention the movies I've seen). She's probably right. I find solace in reading a good book. I think Elizabeth Hardwick sums it all up when she said that reading is cheap, it consoles, it distracts, it excites, it gives you the knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind. It is a moral illumination.
