Asereth's Musings

M.P.

July 24, 2006

I'm really beginning to hate that term. It is not yet in the league of cuss words but if the trend continues, it might as well be. I've been hearing that term for the past few years and it's way past my threshold. That term when thrown in a conversation, discussion or debate is a stumbling block, no……, it's hitting a concrete wall. It's like having a trump card that when used automatically says I win, you lose. I'm beginning to think that term is used when one doesn't have a valid reason for one's decision or action. It might be one's prerogative but one is not required use it. Coz one day, it might just come back and bite you in the @ss.

Don’t quote me on this

July 21, 2006

I like quotes specially the witty ones. These quotes make me ponder about life. I like quotes where there is a play with words. It amuses me. I myself have a few quotes of my own. Of course, they are not as witty, thought-provoking or amusing as the famous ones. But they came about because of my experiences in life.

  • If what I'm doing is wrong then I don't wanna be right
  • You already have my heart, you are not gonna take away my pride
  • It's not really what you say but how you say it.
  • Some things are not meant to be said, they are meant to be felt.
  • Jesus died to save you. If you were to die at this very moment, can you honestly say the life you've lived was worth saving?

Damn if you will, damn if don’t

You are in a raft which could only accomodate 2 people. You see your aunt and uncle in the ocean drowning. Who would you save? That's a typical Catch 22 situation. By definition, Catch 22 is a problematic situation for which the only solution is denied by a circumstance inherent in the problem or by a rule. It is presenting two equally undesirable alternatives. A more realistic example is when you can't get hired for jobs because you have no experience, but you can't gain experience unless you get a job. Basically, Catch 22 is "heads I win, tails you lose." Stephen Covey preaches to have a win-win situation. But that is not probable for this scenario.

So given a Catch 22 case, what would you do?

  • Nothing, just give up
  • Choose lesser of the two evils
  • Choose the alternative which is more beneficial
  • Choose the alternative which has the consequence you could live with
  • Leave it chance, let fate take it's course

As for me, I will tell you when I've crossed the bridge.

Paano magmahal ng tama kung ang pinili ng puso ay mali?

July 19, 2006

That’s the byline of one of the foreign telenovelas on a local channel. When I first heard it, it struck me. Why? Your guess is as good as your CSI skills. Seriously, this quote really made me think. It’s like deciding on how much to donate to charity when the money was acquired through ill-gotten gains. Taking a page out of the Numb3rs series, mathematically speaking, it is like solving for the average (X) of a group of numbers and your formula is 5 + 4 + 7/3 = X. X would never be the average of the numbers because of the wrong formula. So how did we go from something so intriguing to something so geeky? That’s just a glimpse of my train of thought.

A blogger. Me? Yeah, right

July 18, 2006

You see, I’m a very private person. I don’t wanna be “out there”. I  don’t even have a friendster account, much to the consternation of my friends. So why am I opening this blog account? I could say my friends nagged me into doing so. But that’s not the case. I created this account on a whim or impulse. No, I’m not changing spots. Who knows, this could be my first and last blog. But this could also serve as outlet for my inner musings. Only time will tell…..
